What is the 4 1/2" x 6" Walnut Finish Step Edge Plaque?

4 1/2" x 6" Walnut Finish Step Edge Plaque (ZX60): a plaque where Solid walnut with a deep natural grain and a hand-finished surface does most of the work. It measures 4 1/2" x 6".

Walnut is the darkest of the common domestic hardwoods, which gives engraving somewhere to sit. Grain varies piece to piece. An argument for it, not against it, on an award meant to feel individual.

Laser engraving produces a near-black mark against the walnut, one of the highest-contrast wood results available. Wall-mounted recognition stays visible to everyone who walks past, not just the recipient.

This is table-stock: priced to be handed out freely. The metric that matters is how many you can put into circulation, not what each one felt like to give. Concretely: $6.45 each at 1-11, $4.00 at 500+.

Decoration options

The decoration method is chosen to match the substrate, which is why the mark is permanent rather than printed on top of it. Standard imprint area on this item is 3 in x 4.5 in.

Laser Engraving

A focused laser removes the surface layer to expose the substrate beneath. A permanent, high-contrast, single-color mark with no ink involved.

Best for

Logos, names, dates and fine text. The default choice when the mark has to outlive the campaign.

Color

Single color: the natural color of the material under the surface.

UV Printing

UV-cured ink is jetted directly onto the product and cured instantly under ultraviolet light. Full-color, photographic-quality artwork with hard edges and no dot gain.

Best for

Multi-color logos, gradients, photographs and exact brand-color matching.

Color

Full color, including white ink on dark substrates.

Artwork requirements

  • Name the PMS values for anything that has to match a brand standard; screen color is not a reliable reference.
  • Type should be converted to curves or outlines, otherwise a missing font silently substitutes on our end.
  • Send the file you have, even if it is imperfect. We will tell you honestly whether it will hold up and redraw it if it will not.
  • If brand color accuracy matters, give us the Pantone numbers rather than a screenshot to match.
  • A 300 dpi raster at the actual imprint dimensions will run cleanly. Anything pulled from a web page usually will not.

Donor recognitionA natural fit for donor recognition, which is one of the settings this plaque was specified for.
Sponsor and partner recognitionSpecified regularly for sponsor and partner recognition. The imprint area at 3 in x 4.5 in is sized for exactly that job.
Customer loyalty tiersA physical marker of status that an account dashboard cannot replicate.
Team and department awardsRecognizing a group without the cost or ceremony of individual crystal for every person.
Executive and board giftingShort lists, individual personalization, and a piece that survives scrutiny.
Recruiting and onboardingIncluded in offer packs and first-day kits, where the object is doing culture work from the very first hour.
Event and conference giftingHanded to qualified conversations rather than to everyone, so the spend goes where the pipeline is.

Where this works best

The same item lands differently depending on who gets it and why. Here is how this one performs across the programs it sells into most.

1

Education, Schools & Universities

Education buys in waves: orientation, homecoming, graduation, staff appreciation. Student-facing items live rough. They go in backpacks, get left outdoors and are rarely cleaned, so durability matters more than finish. Faculty and donor gifting is the opposite problem and deserves an entirely separate specification. Decoration holds up in this setting, which is where cheaper substrates fail. The unit cost here is low enough that reach matters more than restraint.

2

Government, Military & First Responders

This segment is precise about protocol and unforgiving about quality. Challenge coins, unit recognition, retirement and commendation pieces all carry established conventions. Sourcing compliance and documented lead times usually matter as much as the item itself. An imprint area of 3 in x 4.5 in is enough for a logo and a line of text without crowding. Order deep. At this price the waste of a few extra is cheaper than running short.

3

Faith & Community Organizations

Faith communities give to mark moments rather than to advertise. These pieces are given once and kept for a lifetime, so the failure mode is not looking cheap but dating badly. Restrained typography and no year-specific styling means the piece still reads well in twenty years. Volume is the point at $6.45; nobody is auditing this line item.

4

Sports Leagues, Tournaments & Clubs

Sport needs volume, deadlines and a clear hierarchy of awards. The order arrives before the results do, which means engraving strategy is the real decision. Generic plates with a separate engraved insert let you produce early and personalize late, and that is usually the difference between hitting the date and missing it. Cost per impression is the number that matters here, and it is very low.

5

Employee Recognition & Service Awards

Recognition fails when the object does not match the words. If you are marking five or ten years of someone's working life, the piece has to carry weight. Literally and otherwise. Personalization with the individual's name is what converts a company gift into a personal keepsake, and it is the single highest-leverage decision in a recognition program. Minimum order is a single piece, which suits how this segment tends to buy. Cheap enough to over-order slightly, which is the right call for a table.

6

Nonprofit & Fundraising

Every pound spent on a donor gift is a pound not spent on the mission, so the gift has to earn it. Donors read the gift as a statement about stewardship. Something visibly expensive can cost you more in confidence than it earns in goodwill, which is why restraint and a personal inscription usually outperform scale in this sector. Wall-mounted recognition stays visible to everyone who walks past, not just the recipient. At this price the risk is under-ordering, not over-ordering.

What do buyers ask about ZX60?

Is there a setup charge?

No. Setup is free on every order at every quantity. Art preparation, machine setup and your digital proof are built into the price, with nothing added for them later. Engraving is a separate line, shown per quantity in the cost table on this page, so the all-in figure is visible before checkout.

How long does production take?

Standard production is 3 to 5 business days after proof approval, then 1 to 5 business days of ground transit. The clock starts when you approve the proof, not when you place the order. A free digital proof comes back within one business day of usable artwork, and nothing is produced until you approve it in writing. A rush is quoted per job, with the date confirmed in writing before you pay.

Can I order more later and have them match?

Yes. We keep the approved artwork on file against the item number, so a re-order runs from the same file. Material batches can vary slightly on natural materials, which is worth knowing if color matching across orders is critical. The published ladder on ZX60 runs from $6.45 a piece at 1-11 down to $4.00 at 500+, about 38% less per piece.

Can I mix colors or sizes to reach a quantity break?

Yes, provided the artwork stays the same across the run. Different artwork is fine as well: it gets its own proof, and setup stays free. Price breaks on this item fall at 1-11, 12-23, 24-47, 48-95, 96-249, 250-499, 500+. The published ladder on ZX60 runs from $6.45 a piece at 1-11 down to $4.00 at 500+, about 38% less per piece.

Do you ship to multiple addresses?

Yes, through a quote. Card checkout ships one order to one address, so for a split run send the address list with a quote request and we confirm the freight for every destination in writing before you pay. The artwork is proofed once and applied across the whole run. Ground freight is free on orders over $250.

What artwork do you need from me?

Vector artwork is ideal (.ai, .eps, .pdf or .svg) with all type converted to outlines. High-resolution raster at 300 dpi or better also works, and a logo saved from a website is worth sending anyway. We check it against the 3 in x 4.5 in personalization area and tell you before you pay whether it holds up at that size.

What happens if something arrives damaged?

Tell us within 10 days of delivery and we replace it. Note any damage on the freight bill before you sign for it, because that is what the carrier claim turns on. Resolving it with the carrier is our job, not yours. The replacement runs from the artwork you already approved, so it matches the rest of the order.

What is the minimum order for ZX60?

ZX60 can be ordered from a single piece. The published ladder on ZX60 runs from $6.45 a piece at 1-11 down to $4.00 at 500+, about 38% less per piece. There is no setup fee at any quantity. The personalization area on ZX60 is 3 in x 4.5 in.
