What is the Square Patch with Black Stitched Border?

The Square Patch with Black Stitched Border is what most buyers mean when they ask for a patch that will not look cheap in six months. It measures 2 1/2" x 2 1/2". This is the black colorway.

Built to survive real use rather than a single event, that is what separates a promotional item that keeps working from one that ends up in a drawer..

Decoration method is matched to the substrate so the mark is permanent rather than printed on top. Patches let one apparel blank serve many teams, departments or locations.

Giveaway pricing, which changes how you should think about quantity. Running short at a booth costs more in missed conversations than the extra units would have cost to print. Concretely: $3.36 each at 1-11, $2.08 at 500+.

Decoration options

The decoration method is chosen to match the substrate, which is why the mark is permanent rather than printed on top of it. Standard imprint area on this item is 1.5 in x 1.25 in.

Laser Engraving

A focused laser removes the surface layer to expose the substrate beneath. A permanent, high-contrast, single-color mark with no ink involved.

Best for

Logos, names, dates and fine text. The default choice when the mark has to outlive the campaign.

Color

Single color: the natural color of the material under the surface.

UV Printing

UV-cured ink is jetted directly onto the product and cured instantly under ultraviolet light. Full-color, photographic-quality artwork with hard edges and no dot gain.

Best for

Multi-color logos, gradients, photographs and exact brand-color matching.

Color

Full color, including white ink on dark substrates.

Artwork requirements

  • Supply Pantone (PMS) references for any color that has to match exactly.
  • A 300 dpi raster at the actual imprint dimensions will run cleanly. Anything pulled from a web page usually will not.
  • A digital proof comes back to you first, every time. Production starts on your written approval and not before.
  • Outline your fonts before sending. It removes the most common cause of a proof coming back wrong.
  • Name the PMS values for anything that has to match a brand standard; screen color is not a reliable reference.
  • Vector artwork (.ai, .eps, .pdf or .svg) reproduces best at every size and is what we ask for first.

Common uses

Uniform programsWorks well for uniform programs, where the patch format does what a printed handout cannot.
Team and club identityWorks well for team and club identity, where the patch format does what a printed handout cannot.
Apparel customisationApparel customisation is where this earns its cost, and where buyers re-order it.
Client thank-you programsSent after a renewal, a referral or a project close, when the relationship is warm and the gesture will land.
Sponsorship and partner thanksGiven to the people who funded or enabled the work, in a form they can keep visible.
Team and department awardsRecognizing a group without the cost or ceremony of individual crystal for every person.
Remote team welcome kitsShipped to a home address, which for a distributed team is the only physical touch the company gets.
Renewal and retention giftsTimed to the contract date rather than the calendar, which is when the recipient is actually paying attention.

Where this works best

The same item lands differently depending on who gets it and why. Here is how this one performs across the programs it sells into most.

1

Construction, Trades & Field Services

On a job site, an item survives or it disappears. The item has to survive a truck bed in July and a tailgate in January. Thermal performance and impact resistance are the specification; everything else in this segment is decoration on top of that. Patches let one apparel blank serve many teams, departments or locations. Order deep. At this price the waste of a few extra is cheaper than running short.

2

Government, Military & First Responders

This segment is precise about protocol and unforgiving about quality. Challenge coins, unit recognition, retirement and commendation pieces all carry established conventions. Sourcing compliance and documented lead times usually matter as much as the item itself. Decoration method is matched to the substrate so the mark is permanent rather than printed on top. Volume is the point at $3.36; nobody is auditing this line item.

3

Sports Leagues, Tournaments & Clubs

Sport needs volume, deadlines and a clear hierarchy of awards. Awards are read as a hierarchy whether or not you intended one. If the participation piece and the champion piece look similar, the champion feels short-changed, and that is remembered longer than the result. The patch format earns its place here on keep-rate rather than headline price. Cost per impression is the number that matters here, and it is very low.

4

Franchise & Multi-Location Brands

The hard problem in multi-location branding is consistency, not creativity. Artwork drift is cumulative and invisible until it is severe. A locked file held centrally against each item number, rather than a logo emailed between locations, is what stops forty sites gradually producing forty logos. Cheap enough to over-order slightly, which is the right call for a table.

What do buyers ask about SBL231?

What artwork do you need from me?

Send vector if it exists, raster at 300 dpi if it does not, and whatever you have if neither. The personalization area on SBL231 is 1.5 in x 1.25 in, and we redraw or re-proportion anything that will not survive it. A free digital proof comes back within one business day of usable artwork, and nothing is produced until you approve it in writing.

How long does production take?

Door to door at standard speed: a day for the proof, 3 to 5 business days in production, then 1 to 5 business days in transit. A rush is quoted per job, with the date confirmed in writing before you pay.

Is there a setup charge?

There is no setup charge, ever. Art preparation, machine setup and the proof are part of the price on this page. Engraving is a separate line, shown per quantity in the cost table on this page, so the all-in figure is visible before checkout. Ground freight is free on orders over $250.

Can I order more later and have them match?

Re-orders reproduce rather than reinterpret. We keep the approved artwork on file against the item number, so a re-order runs from the same file. On natural materials the base itself can shift a little between batches, so tell us if an exact match matters. Standard production is 3 to 5 business days after proof approval, then 1 to 5 business days of ground transit.

Can you work to a fixed in-hand date?

Yes, and it is the right way to brief us. Tell us the date the box has to be open rather than the date you want it shipped, and checkout works the schedule backwards from there. It refuses a date it cannot keep rather than accepting it and missing it. Standard production is 3 to 5 business days after proof approval, then 1 to 5 business days of ground transit.

Do you keep this item in stock?

Yes. The warehouse shows 801 of SBL231 in stock as of the last hourly sync. If a color is short we say so the day you order rather than the week before the deadline. Standard production is 3 to 5 business days after proof approval, then 1 to 5 business days of ground transit.

How should this be cared for?

Wipe clean with a soft damp cloth. SBL231 measures 2 1/2" x 2 1/2". Built to survive real use rather than a single event, that is what separates a promotional item that keeps working from one that ends up in a drawer.

What is the minimum order for SBL231?

There is no minimum beyond one piece on SBL231. Price breaks on this item fall at 1-11, 12-23, 24-47, 48-95, 96-249, 250-499, 500+. The price per piece only goes down as the quantity rises. The published ladder on SBL231 runs from $3.36 a piece at 1-11 down to $2.08 at 500+, about 38% less per piece.

  • Ground freight is free from 96 pieces, which is where this order passes $250.00 of merchandise.
  • The personalization area is 1.5 in by 1.25 in. Engraving is charged on the share your artwork actually covers, so a smaller logo costs less. Place yours on the product above and the price updates as you size it.
  • At 50 pieces this costs less than 7% of the 435 other priced items in Apparel & Headwear. It sits at the dearer end of that range, which is usually the material rather than the margin.
  • The table starts at 48 because below that the engraving setup costs more than the goods, and we will not guess at a price there. Ask us and we will quote a smaller run from your artwork.
  • Setup is free at every quantity, including 48.
