What is the Square Star 2" Insert Holder Medal-Antique Bronze (Insert Not Included)?

A working medal. Die-cast zinc alloy with a plated finish. It measures 2 1/8". This is the bronze colorway.

Die casting captures far finer relief detail than stamping, so medals and heavier emblem pieces are cast rather than pressed. Plating then sets the finish. Gold, silver or bronze.

Medals scale to hundreds of recipients at a cost per person that no other award form matches. Artwork is struck into the die, or applied as a printed or sublimated insert set into the recess.

Treat this as reach inventory. The point of the tier is that you can put one in every hand at an event without the total ever becoming a conversation with finance. Concretely: $3.60 each at 1-11, $2.23 at 500+.

Decoration options

The decoration method is chosen to match the substrate, which is why the mark is permanent rather than printed on top of it. Standard imprint area on this item is 1.27 in x 1 in.

Die Struck

The design is struck into metal with a custom die. Crisp raised and recessed relief in solid metal.

Best for

Medals, coins and lapel pins.

Color

Metal finish, optionally enamel-filled.

Printed Insert

A printed or sublimated disc is set into the recess of the piece. Full-color artwork inside a cast metal frame.

Best for

Medals and emblem holders where color is required.

Color

Full color.

Laser Engraving (back)

The reverse face is laser engraved. Personalization without disturbing the struck front face.

Best for

Medals with a standard front and individual backs.

Color

Substrate color.

Artwork requirements

  • If the logo is only available as a bitmap, we need it at 300 dpi or better at final size, ideally on a transparent background.
  • Supply Pantone (PMS) references for any color that has to match exactly.
  • Name the PMS values for anything that has to match a brand standard; screen color is not a reliable reference.
  • Type should be converted to curves or outlines, otherwise a missing font silently substitutes on our end.
  • Nothing is produced before you approve a proof in writing. That is a hard rule, not a courtesy.

Common uses

Races and tournamentsRaces and tournaments is where this earns its cost, and where buyers re-order it.
School achievementWorks well for school achievement, where the medal format does what a printed handout cannot.
Participation recognitionBuilt for participation recognition. That is the use case the format was designed around, not one retrofitted to it.
Renewal and retention giftsTimed to the contract date rather than the calendar, which is when the recipient is actually paying attention.
Event and conference giftingHanded to qualified conversations rather than to everyone, so the spend goes where the pipeline is.
Booth and trade show handoutsThe item that gives someone a reason to stop walking, and a reason to remember which booth it came from.
Service anniversariesFive, ten and twenty years. The object marks the span in a way a announcement never manages.
Recruiting and onboardingIncluded in offer packs and first-day kits, where the object is doing culture work from the very first hour.

Where this works best

The same item lands differently depending on who gets it and why. Here is how this one performs across the programs it sells into most.

1

Government, Military & First Responders

This segment is precise about protocol and unforgiving about quality. Protocol governs the object. Placement of insignia, order of precedence on a plaque and the wording of a commendation are conventions rather than preferences, and getting them wrong is the one error this segment does not overlook. Decoration holds up in this setting, which is where cheaper substrates fail. At $3.60 before breaks it is cheap enough to hand out without counting.

2

Nonprofit & Fundraising

Every pound spent on a donor gift is a pound not spent on the mission, so the gift has to earn it. Recognition pieces for major donors and board members are the clearest win: they are relatively few, they are highly personal, and they materially affect renewal. For event merchandise, price the item to sell rather than to give. An imprint area of 1.27 in x 1 in is enough for a logo and a line of text without crowding. The unit cost here is low enough that reach matters more than restraint.

3

Sports Leagues, Tournaments & Clubs

Sport needs volume, deadlines and a clear hierarchy of awards. Awards are read as a hierarchy whether or not you intended one. If the participation piece and the champion piece look similar, the champion feels short-changed, and that is remembered longer than the result. Order deep. At this price the waste of a few extra is cheaper than running short.

4

Education, Schools & Universities

Education buys in waves: orientation, homecoming, graduation, staff appreciation. Student-facing items live rough. They go in backpacks, get left outdoors and are rarely cleaned, so durability matters more than finish. Faculty and donor gifting is the opposite problem and deserves an entirely separate specification. Volume is the point at $3.60; nobody is auditing this line item.
