What is the 2 1/4" x 1" Clear Gem Riser?

2 1/4" x 1" Clear Gem Riser (GEM101): a crystal award where Full-lead crystal with high refractive brilliance and hand-finished edges does most of the work. It measures 2 1/4"(L) x 2 1/4"(W) x 1"(H). This is the clear colorway.

Lead content increases the refractive index, which is the technical reason lead crystal throws more light and looks noticeably more brilliant under display lighting than ordinary glass. It also adds weight, which is a large part of why crystal reads as a premium award.

Crystal is the accepted visual shorthand for "this one mattered", and that is why it remains the default for flagship recognition. On this substrate specifically: sand carving produces the deepest, most tactile mark. Laser engraving is faster and better suited to fine text and small logos.

This is table-stock: priced to be handed out freely. The metric that matters is how many you can put into circulation, not what each one felt like to give. Concretely: $6.15 each at 1-11, $3.81 at 500+.

Decoration options

The decoration method is chosen to match the substrate, which is why the mark is permanent rather than printed on top of it. Standard imprint area on this item is 1.35 in x 1 in.

Sand Carving

Abrasive is blasted through a cut mask to cut into the surface of the glass or crystal. A deep, frosted, dimensional mark you can feel with a fingertip.

Best for

Crystal and glass awards where depth and presence matter more than color.

Color

Frosted white, optionally color-filled.

Laser Engraving

A focused laser removes the surface layer to expose the substrate beneath. A permanent, high-contrast, single-color mark with no ink involved.

Best for

Logos, names, dates and fine text. The default choice when the mark has to outlive the campaign.

Color

Single color: the natural color of the material under the surface.

Color Fill

Engraved or carved recesses are filled with pigment. A permanent engraved mark that reads in brand color rather than substrate color.

Best for

Metal and crystal where the logo must be recognisably on-brand.

Color

Matched to Pantone where the recess allows.

Artwork requirements

  • Nothing is produced before you approve a proof in writing. That is a hard rule, not a courtesy.
  • Raster artwork should be at least 300 dpi at the finished imprint size, on a transparent or white background.
  • Send the file you have, even if it is imperfect. We will tell you honestly whether it will hold up and redraw it if it will not.
  • If the logo is only available as a bitmap, we need it at 300 dpi or better at final size, ideally on a transparent background.
  • Outline your fonts before sending. It removes the most common cause of a proof coming back wrong.

Common uses

Executive recognitionA natural fit for executive recognition, which is one of the settings this crystal award was specified for.
Top performer awardsSpecified regularly for top performer awards. The imprint area at 1.35 in x 1 in is sized for exactly that job.
Partner and board recognitionA natural fit for partner and board recognition, which is one of the settings this crystal award was specified for.
Event and conference giftingHanded to qualified conversations rather than to everyone, so the spend goes where the pipeline is.
Employee milestonesAnniversaries, promotions and retirements: the moments where a personalized object does what an email cannot.
Booth and trade show handoutsThe item that gives someone a reason to stop walking, and a reason to remember which booth it came from.
Renewal and retention giftsTimed to the contract date rather than the calendar, which is when the recipient is actually paying attention.
Safety and quality milestonesMarking a record that took every person on the floor to achieve, with something they can point at.

Where this works best

The same item lands differently depending on who gets it and why. Here is how this one performs across the programs it sells into most.

1

Technology, SaaS & Startups

Distributed teams have no office to carry the culture, so the objects have to. Shipping a considered kit to a home address is now a standard part of remote onboarding, and it is the rare marketing spend that shows up in retention numbers. Ship-safe materials matter more here than in any other segment. Lead content increases the refractive index, which is the technical reason lead crystal throws more light and looks noticeably more brilliant under display lighting than ordinary glass. Order deep. At this price the waste of a few extra is cheaper than running short.

2

Employee Recognition & Service Awards

Recognition fails when the object does not match the words. The presentation matters as much as the piece. An award handed over in a hallway is worth a fraction of the same award presented in front of the team, which means the object should be specified for the moment it will be photographed in, not the shelf it ends on. Volume is the point at $6.15; nobody is auditing this line item.

3

Financial Services, Insurance & Legal

Professional services sell trust, and the gift has to look like the invoice. The gift is often opened in front of colleagues, so it is judged as a signal about the relationship rather than as an object. Understatement is the safe default, and a name engraved properly does more than any material upgrade. Decoration holds up in this setting, which is where cheaper substrates fail. Cost per impression is the number that matters here, and it is very low.

4

Corporate Gifting & Client Appreciation

Client gifting has one job: to be kept. A gift that lands on a client desk and stays there keeps working long after the meeting that prompted it. That argues for fewer, better pieces rather than a large volume of disposables, and for decoration that will still look intentional in two years. An imprint area of 1.35 in x 1 in is enough for a logo and a line of text without crowding. Cheap enough to over-order slightly, which is the right call for a table.

5

Government, Military & First Responders

This segment is precise about protocol and unforgiving about quality. Procurement documentation often takes longer than production. Quotes with fixed validity periods, documented lead times and clear line-item pricing move faster through approval than a better price presented informally. At this price the risk is under-ordering, not over-ordering.

6

Nonprofit & Fundraising

Every pound spent on a donor gift is a pound not spent on the mission, so the gift has to earn it. Volunteer recognition is where the money works hardest. Volunteers give time that would otherwise cost you wages, and the marginal cost of thanking them properly is trivial against what their continued involvement is worth. Down to $3.81 at volume, which is where this stops being a cost.

What do buyers ask about GEM101?

Do you ship to multiple addresses?

Yes, through a quote. Card checkout ships one order to one address, so for a split run send the address list with a quote request and we confirm the freight for every destination in writing before you pay. The artwork is proofed once and applied across the whole run. Ground freight is free on orders over $250.

Can I get a sample before committing?

Yes: order one piece. GEM101 sells from a single unit at $6.15, the first rung of its published ladder, so a sample is simply a normal order. A decorated single piece goes through the same proof as a full run.

How is this decorated?

We run sand carving on GEM101 as standard. A deep, frosted, dimensional mark you can feel with a fingertip. We can also run Laser Engraving and Color Fill on this item if the artwork calls for it. The personalization area on GEM101 is 1.35 in x 1 in. A free digital proof comes back within one business day of usable artwork, and nothing is produced until you approve it in writing.

Can I see a proof before you produce the order?

Always, and we do not start without written approval. A free digital proof comes back within one business day of usable artwork, and nothing is produced until you approve it in writing. Once approved, the proof becomes the specification for the run, so check the spelling and the placement carefully. The personalization area on GEM101 is 1.35 in x 1 in.

How long does production take?

Standard production is 3 to 5 business days after proof approval, then 1 to 5 business days of ground transit. The clock starts when you approve the proof, not when you place the order. A free digital proof comes back within one business day of usable artwork, and nothing is produced until you approve it in writing. A rush is quoted per job, with the date confirmed in writing before you pay.

What artwork do you need from me?

Vector artwork is ideal (.ai, .eps, .pdf or .svg) with all type converted to outlines. High-resolution raster at 300 dpi or better also works, and a logo saved from a website is worth sending anyway. We check it against the 1.35 in x 1 in personalization area and tell you before you pay whether it holds up at that size.

How should this be cared for?

Hand wash only with a soft cloth. Never dishwasher. GEM101 measures 2 1/4"(L) x 2 1/4"(W) x 1"(H) and is made of crystal. Lead content increases the refractive index, which is the technical reason lead crystal throws more light and looks noticeably more brilliant under display lighting than ordinary glass.

What is the minimum order for GEM101?

There is no minimum beyond one piece on GEM101. Price breaks on this item fall at 1-11, 12-23, 24-47, 48-95, 96-249, 250-499, 500+. The price per piece only goes down as the quantity rises. The published ladder on GEM101 runs from $6.15 a piece at 1-11 down to $3.81 at 500+, about 38% less per piece.
